Spearheaded by Lower Elementary students and working with representatives from each Elementary classroom and the Adolescent Program, Arbor students are hosted a school-wide food drive and fundraiser for the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

As shared by representatives from ACFB:

  • Every $1 raised helps provide 3 meals in the community.
  • 1 in 7 Georgians live in a food-insecure household.
  • 1 in 5 Children live in a food-insecure household.

As the nation faces this government shutdown, millions of families are at risk of losing access to critical nutrition assistance: 1.5 million Georgians ran out of funding for SNAP on November 1st.

  • Demand for food assistance has risen 70% over the past few years.
  • SNAP provides $250 million per month in food support statewide — nearly equal to what ACFB distributes in an entire year.
  • We provided 10 million meals last month through 700+ partner agencies across 29 counties, and the need continues to grow.
  • To meet this surge in demand, the Food Bank is drawing $5 million from its reserve funds to purchase more than 6 million pounds of food for families across Georgia.

The Arbor Food Drive exceeded all expectations! There were piles of food outside every Arbor classroom across both campuses. Together, our beloved community raised nearly $3,000 and donated a whopping 1,265 pounds of food.

We are grateful for our students and their incredible capacity to engage in what interests them, build their skills, and take part in a community where they can discover how they might contribute to the world and make it a better place for others.
