Our Campuses
Arbor Montessori School, at the time known as MCDC, expanded their program offerings and communities through their first ten years in operation. This in turn created an urgent need for a larger space. A dedicated search led to the purchase of 2998 Lavista Road, Arbor’s main campus location.
The Lavista Campus
The Lavista Campus is home to classrooms from the toddler through adolescent programs. The main campus occupies a large, forested lot on Lavista Road in Decatur, a suburb of Atlanta, the 6th largest metro area in the United States. Many students come from the City of Decatur and surrounding communities including Oak Grove, Toco Hills, Tucker, and Brookhaven.
The school was built in 1987, with remodeling and additions in several phases, the last completed in 1997. Indoor space includes 8 classrooms, specialty classrooms including music and art studio space, and administrative offices. The outdoor environment includes two playgrounds; a deck for large craft projects and informal gatherings; a patio for hopscotch, four square, and jump rope; a wooded area where students may walk or explore natural surroundings; a half-basketball court; and a full playing field for soccer, kickball, and other games.
Each classroom offers a full set of AMI-approved Montessori materials and custom furniture appropriate for the ages of students working in that environment. All classrooms have exterior windows and many have their own patio or garden spaces, allowing easy and immediate access to the outdoor environment.
Over the years, Arbor operated satellite campuses throughout the metro Atlanta area. In 1978, Arbor opened a Primary classroom opened near Emory University to better serve that community. Over time, this campus grew to include two Primary classrooms and our inaugural Toddler program.
The Scott Campus
In 2016, these communities moved to Arbor's newly renovated second permanent campus at 1434 Scott Boulevard, replacing the previously leased space at Emory. Arbor's Scott Campus location was selected for its proximity to downtown Decatur and the Emory community. It continues to host one toddler classroom and two Primary classrooms.
The close-knit, caring community of the Scott Campus serves as a warm welcome to young students just beginning their school journey. The indoor space includes three classrooms, community rooms, and meeting space. The outdoor environment includes a large playground and several outdoor garden areas for children to explore.
Like the Lavista Campus, each classroom offers a full set of AMI-approved Montessori materials and custom furniture appropriate for the ages of students working in that environment. As children enter their kindergarten year in Primary, they begin visiting the Lavista Campus and the Elementary classrooms several times a year in preparation for their move to the next program.
