Arbor Montessori's Board of Trustees

Committees of the Board of Trustees

The Arbor Board of Trustees directs the work of the Board committees and accomplishes its work through these committees. Arbor Montessori encourages parents who are interested in the decision-making process to volunteer to join a Board Committee. From the discussions, research, and planning that take place at committee meetings, recommendations may be brought to the Board for consideration. The Board's mission is to implement Arbor's Montessori educational vision through time for future generations. The Board plans for the future and approves policies that correspond to Arbor's Statement of Purpose. The work of the Board is accomplished through standing Board committees. Arbor's Board of Trustees is composed of AMI (Association Montessori Nationale) and non-AMI members. Non-AMI Trustees are valued members of the community who have specific knowledge and experience that they can contribute to committees. Because Arbor Montessori School is an AMI-run school, with the AMI Montessori philosophy as its guiding directive, there is a majority of AMI-trained staff on the Board. The Board sets policies, manages the assets of the school, does long-range planning, and supports the administration, activities, and programs of the school. The standing committees of the Board are as follows:

Communication Committee: Chair: Leslie Richardson. Assists the Director of Communication in planning and implementing both internal and external communications and public relations.

Buildings & Grounds Committee: Chair: Dan Smith.  Oversees the maintenance of the buildings and grounds.

Diversity Committee: Co-Chairs: Tai Yi Su and Cris Correia. Supports a diverse Arbor community through facilitation of recruitment and retention of families from different backgrounds and by support of staff. Special events to highlight diversity are also planned.
