How does Running Club "Run?"
Parent volunteers are stationed along a 1/4 lap around the track and part of the playground area. Kids carry cards with them while they run laps and parent volunteers punch the cards to keep track of the number of laps. At the end of their laps, the runners file their card for the next session. When the child has completed a card (5 miles) he or she chooses a "toe token" to be attached to a pair of running shoes (or backpack, key chain, bracelet, nightlight, the possiblilites are endless!) Kids run/walk at their own pace, by choice, and they cover distances with which they are comfortable. Many kids choose to run steady laps for the whole session, some combine jogging and sprinting, while others do both running and walking.
Drop Off: kids need to be walked back to the field patio outside the a rt room by the parent/ adult dropping them off. Exception: if you can tell we are already running and your child is old enough to waki in by his/herself. If it is really cold, or rainy, don't assume we're running, and never leave your child unattended.
Water: kids can bring a water bottle when them to practice.
Shoes: kids must have appropriate footwear, that is, a closed shoe sutiable for unning/walking; they dont' need 'running shoes, but some type of "sneaker."
Your child can join the program at any time, and there is no commitment required. If he or she needs to think about it, or come watch, that's fine. It's personal and they won' miss anything if they decide later to check it out. Children younger than 6 are welcome to participate, but we ask that a parent be present.
